Reading habits in decline – the importance of promoting reading

Globally, the habit of reading books has significantly declined during the 21st century, as humanity has made remarkable strides in development of technology. The Tamil-speaking community is no exception to this trend, however another contributing factor for the decline in reading amongst this population is the current economic climate in Sri Lanka. Many people struggle to afford books or must prioritise other necessities.
One of our objectives is to help increase reading habits amongst the Tamil-speaking population in Sri Lanka. We have been working towards this by partnering with local organisations to arrange various activities, such as seminars, book exhibitions, and reading competitions. We also donate books to schools and libraries in these communities
